U.S. Proposes $1.5 Million Fees for Chinese Ships

The United States plans to impose fees and service restrictions on Chinese-operated or -built cargo ships due to concerns over China’s dominance in maritime industries and its impact on U.S. commerce. Initiated by the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), the proposal includes fees of up to $1.5 million per port call for Chinese-built ships and $1 million for China-based vessel operators, affecting approximately 17% of container vessels visiting U.S. ports.

USTR will hold a public hearing on the proposed actions on March 24, with a deadline of March 10 to request participation. Comments in response to this notice can be submitted or accessed here.
