U.S. Plans Additional Tariffs on China Semiconductors

The U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has determined that certain acts, policies, and practices by China related to semiconductors are actionable under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.

In response, the U.S. plans to impose an additional tariff on select semiconductor imports from China. The tariff will initially be set at zero beginning December 23, 2025, and will increase on June 23, 2027, with the specific rate announced at least 30 days in advance.

These tariffs are in addition to the existing 50% Section 301 duties addressing forced technology transfer.
