POLB ties imports decline to sagging consumer spending

The Port of Long Beach (POLB) moved 1,721,326 TEUs during the first quarter of 2023, a 30% decrease from Q1 of 2022. The port’s news release pointed to a pullback in consumer spending as a reason for the volume decline, though the routing trend to East and Gulf Coast ports has accelerated in recent years.
