Section 301 Tariffs Update

The Section 301 Tariffs initiated by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) beginning in July 2018, marked a significant new chapter in US-China trade relations. Four rounds of tariffs on Chinese goods were implemented with rates ranging from 25% to 7.5% and currently apply to over $300 billion in Chinese imports annually. The USTR announced a continuation of the tariffs on September 8 and have released a questionnaire to gather comments addressing the effects of the Section 301 tariffs as part of its “review of necessity”. Interested parties can submit responses from November 15, 2022 until January 17, 2023. For additional information on Section 301 tariffs and related exclusions, contact your CH Powell service team.
