U.S. Imposes 50% Tariff on Copper Imports

On July 30, President Trump issued a Fact Sheet and Presidential Proclamation imposing a 50% tariff on imports of semi-finished copper and certain copper derivative products under Section 232, citing national security concerns.

The tariff takes effect at 12:01 a.m. ET on August 1 for goods entered for consumption or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued implementation guidance on July 31 for applying the 50% ad valorem duty on affected copper imports.
