Ocean Carriers to Raise Emissions Surcharges in 2026

Starting in 2026, ocean carriers will implement higher emissions surcharges, with some trade lanes experiencing increases of over 50%. This change comes in response to new European Union (EU) emissions regulations, including the EU Emissions Trading System, which will require carriers to account for 100% of their carbon emissions.

Major carriers have already issued advisories to customers about these upcoming surcharge increases.
