U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued a final rule designating the Gordie Howe International Bridge as part of the Port of Detroit.
The bridge will connect Detroit, Michigan, and Windsor, Ontario, Canada, establishing a new port of entry. The crossing will support CBP cargo processing, passenger clearance, duty collection, and enforcement activities. The final rule takes effect March 2, 2026.
CBP will announce when the bridge is fully operational via a public notice on its website.
