Trans-Pacific container rates have surged due to early peak season demand and general rate increases (GRIs) that took effect on June 1. Spot rates from Asia to the U.S. West Coast have now exceeded $7,000 per FEU, reflecting strong upward pressure on the market. Additional GRIs—ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 per FEU—are expected to follow in mid-June and again on July 1.
In contrast, air cargo volumes between China and the U.S. have softened in early June after a sharp mid-May surge. Flown weight dropped by 10% compared to the previous week and is down 19% year-over-year. Spot rates also declined, falling 5% week-over-week and 17% from the same period last year.
