On February 20, President Donald Trump issued a proclamation invoking his authority under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974. The action follows a U.S. Supreme Court decision that invalidated the administration’s use of tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
The Executive Order establishes a temporary 10% ad valorem duty on articles imported into the United States for a period of 150 days. The tariff applies to goods entered, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after 12:01 a.m. EST on February 24. The measure is scheduled to remain in effect through 12:01 a.m. EDT on July 24.
Additional details are available in the accompanying fact sheet and in Annex 1 and Annex 2 of the presidential proclamation, which outline applicable tariff classifications and exemptions.
